DDI Organizes a Diabetic Retinopathy Workshop

Diabetic retinopathy is one of many diabetes complications, of which if left neglected, may lead to vision loss. For this reason, DDI, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, recently organized a two-day workshop for two different groups of primary care doctors at the Ministry of Health on diabetic retinopathy. Retinopathy is common in people with diabetes, as it is caused by high levels of blood sugar that nourishes the cells in the back of the eye, known as the retina, which if left untreated can lead to blindness.

This workshop aims to develop ophthalmology services and care and improve the level of therapeutic services provided to patients. This workshop also addresses several topics, including risk factors for developing diabetic retinopathy, its signs, how to diagnose it, as well as the stages of development of retinopathy, reading retinal examinations, and the latest recommendations followed regarding this disease.
